Can luxury watches be sustainable? At some level, the answer might be no, because luxury watches are not ineluctably needed by everyone.

Most of the luxury watches brands give the impression of noble and aristocracy. Due to their unique characteristics and their high-end customer base, it is difficult to imagine the relationship between these high-end luxury brands and sustainability. Same to Piaget, the main challenge is how to make sustainability and beauty inseparable, so that sustainability can improve product quality and brand impression.
Responsible Sourcing

For the high-class jewelry watch brand, it’s crucially important to make sure that all of their materials are ethically traceable to their source, and also leave no negative impact on the people or the environment. Therefore, to ensure that their daily operations meet humane standards and environmental sustainability through clear standards, Piaget joined The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), an organization that ensures that companies, from mining to retail, integrate responsible business practices into their management systems.
Moreover, Piaget dedicates itself to continue working on its commitment to responsible sourcing throughout its supply chain, industry organization, and business partners to promote and implement the best possible practices across its business. For instance, the diamonds they put on the watches are all certified by RJC standards and respect the Kimberley Process Certification System agreement, which guarantees shipments of diamonds as conflict-free and legitimately traded.
Environmental Action

Originating from the grasslands of the Neuchâtel Jura region, Piaget is committed to protect the ecological environment by using solar energy, carbon emission compensation, and improving the waste treatment system. Over the years, Piaget has done a great job on reducing the impact on the environment. As one of their priorities, Piaget optimizes the energy consumption in office buildings, reduces travel, and directly reduces carbon dioxide emissions. For example, in order to achieve the Minergie standard for low energy output and high use of renewable energy, Piaget built their Headquarters by setting up solar panels on the roof at its manufacturers in Geneva. Other than that, they also use green electricity in their production facility try to arouse the awareness of commuters to travel in a sustainable way.
Although it may take several years to change, enterprises must constantly instill ideas internally and find the right timing. Compared with doing nothing, Piaget embraces the concept of sustainability to provide another perspective for people to think about different definitions of a better life.
